The Asian Art Museum is located in beautiful Civic Center in the heart of the city, surrounded by spectacular landmarks of Beaux-Arts architecture and a wealth of culturally rich, family-friendly destinations. Directly across Larkin Street, the award-winning Helen Diller Civic Center Playgrounds (renovated in 2018) offer safe and enclosed play for all ages and abilities. These playgrounds anchor the larger plaza outside of City Hall, a vibrant space that frequently hosts cultural events. Other notable institutions just steps away include the Main Library, the San Francisco Symphony, and the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House. Round out your day at the museum with a play date at the Civic Center Playgrounds; lunch and boba tea from our partner restaurant Asian Box or an award-winning croissant from nearby Arsicault Bakery; fresh produce from the Civic Center farmer’s market (held Wednesdays and Saturdays); or a visit to the Main Library, which features a wonderful children’s section and reading room.   

Take BART to the Museum

The Asian Art Museum entrance is only one block away from the Civic Center/UN Plaza BART Station. When exiting the station, follow signs to the UN Plaza exit. After going up the stairs, elevator, or escalator, proceed past the Simón Bolívar statue and cross Hyde Street onto Fulton Street. After one block, turn right on Larkin Street; the museum is on the right-hand side.

Parking

There are two parking garages within one block of the museum: Civic Center Garage (355 McAllister Street) and UC Law Parking Garage (376 Larkin Street).
