We strive to make the Asian Art Museum accessible and welcoming to all.

  • Wheelchair Access
    • A white zone for visitor drop-off/pick-up is located on Larkin Street in front of the museum entrance.
    • Accessible parking spaces can be found along Fulton and Larkin streets.
    • All museum entrances are accessible to people using wheeled devices and those who prefer to avoid stairs.
    • Wheelchairs may be borrowed at the coat check free of charge.
    • All levels of the museum are accessible by elevator.
  • Guide and Service Animals

    Trained guide and service animals are welcome at the Asian Art Museum.

  • Guest Admission

    Admission is free for one person accompanying a visitor with special needs.

  • Wayfinding

    Way-finding signs with universal symbols are located throughout the museum.

  • Large-Print Floor Plans and Labels
    • Borrow large-print floor plans and magnifiers at the information desk.
    • Large-print labels are provided in special exhibition galleries. Please note that many areas feature low lighting to protect the artworks.
  • Assistive Listening Devices

    We offer Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) for daily docent or storytelling tours and public programs. For tours, request an ALD at the information desk; for programs, make your request at the entrance to Samsung Hall.

  • ASL Interpretation

    ASL interpreters are available upon request. Please contact us at 415.581.3531 at least two weeks in advance to book an interpreter.

  • Complimentary Audio Guides

    The information desk offers complimentary audio tours of the collection galleries to blind and low-vision visitors. Audio tours are available in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Korean and French.

  • Audio Guide Tour Transcripts

    Request transcripts of audio tours at the information desk. Transcripts are available in English, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean.

  • Open Captioning for Videos

    Most videos with spoken words (excluding music lyrics and works of art) have open captioning in English.

  • Portable Cane-Seats

    Foldable, portable cane-seats are available for use throughout the galleries.

  • Accessible Restrooms

    Wheelchair-accessible restrooms with changing tables are located on every level. Please refer to the visitor map or inquire at the information desk for locations.

  • Gender Neutral Restrooms

    Two universal (gender-neutral and barrier-free) restrooms are located behind the cafe on the ground floor.
